Las Vegas is fortunate to be the home of the Nellis Air Force Base. Every other year the general public is invited on base to witness and experience some of the nation's top aerial demonstrations!
The Nellis Air Force Base Air Show and Open House (Aviation Nation) is a family-friendly event held throughout one weekend. There are aerial displays and demonstrations, various aircraft on display, and food and merchandise vendors. This event is free and open to the public. It's so popular that when held, the Nellis Air Force Base Air Show and Open House (Aviation Nation) draws in an estimated 200,000 attendees!
The airshow is simply phenomenal, with a mix of civilian and military professionals showcasing both their skills as well as the capabilities of the aircraft that they operate. The show also includes the fantastic U.S.A.F. Thunderbirds! If you've never seen them perform, then this is an event that you'll want to bookmark in your calendar!
The year I went, my friends and I attended early and stayed the full day. We took 100s of photos and were just in awe of the skill and speed displayed in all of the performances! I can't wait to return!
The Nellis Air Force Base Air Show and Open House (Aviation Nation) is typically hosted by Nellis Air Force Base every other year, which would place the next event in 2021. However, it will take a hiatus as a special event is planned for 2022 to celebrate the Air Force's 75th Birthday. That just means you'll have a little extra time to plan your trip!
